In this Council meeting, Councillor Jennifer Rice raised a key concern: residents deserve to know how and where their tax dollars are making a difference — especially when it comes to community safety.
✅ Called for stronger public communication on police activities in newer neighbourhoods
✅ Highlighted the need for visible presence to reassure residents and deter crime
✅ Raised the importance of transparency in how public safety is delivered and perceived
✅ Expressed support for strategies like Hot Spot Zones and commercial mall-specific approaches
✅ Acknowledged the geographic complexity EPS faces, and supports district-based leadership to meet the localized needs and geographical nuances at play
While some on Council have pushed to defund police, Councillor Rice takes a different view. She believes in supporting EPS from a policy and operational perspective, while also advocating for clear, visible value for South Edmonton residents.
Cllr. Rice supports making police work visible — for safer communities and responsible/smarter spending.
