Voted NO to the tax increase!

I listened, acted and voted no to the tax increase!

Today, City Council approved the 2022 operating budget. The vote was 10-3 in favour of the new budget and I am one of the three Councillors who voted “no,” because most ward residents who I spoke with told me they were not in favour of a tax increase under the current economic conditions.

To keep the tax increase as low as possible, I brought forward an amendment to return unused tax dollars from the 2022 budget back to Edmontonians in the form of a tax levy reduction. As a result of my motion passing 7-6, the tax increase was reduced by 0.2% than what it otherwise would have been.

I believe it is so important for City Council and the City’s administration to continue exploring opportunities to further improve the city’s fiscal efficiencies, as ensuring your tax dollars are spent wisely is the responsible thing to do.
