Hello Ward Ipiihkoohkanipaiohtsi! Here is what happened this week at City Hall:
February 6th, 2023:
In this session, we heard about a number of rezoning applications. Public hearings welcome residents to share their perspectives on these applications and provide us with valuable, direct feedback. Thank you to everyone that came out to speak and participated in democracy.
February 7th, 2023:
A big item on the agenda was a proposal by EPS to strengthen regulations for pepper spray. The police gave some troubling statistics that showed pepper spray is increasingly being used as a weapon. The committee decided unanimously to accept EPS' report for information. City administrators will continue to work with EPS to draft bylaw changes, which will then require final approval from Council. Further, the Committee discussed allocating resources for anti-racism work through the City’s Anti-Racism Advisory Committee. Key projects include the African Canadian Civic Engagement Council’s Women and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Program and race-based training for the Canadian Mental Health Distress Line.
February 8th, 2023:
This meeting was short but sweet. We heard about the City’s pilot program to allow residents to garden in the City boulevard next to their property. It seems like a really great program, and the City is looking to ramp it up for another season this Spring.
If you have any questions, feedback, or comments about this week's updates, please email my office at Jennifer.Rice@edmonton.ca. As always, I love to hear feedback from residents to help inform my decisions.
