Hello Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi residents,

Edmonton has stepped up to help shelter evacuees from affected communities across the province at the Expo Centre. Residents have been able to bring their pets to the Expo Centre, and I am grateful for the various Edmonton departments and community members that have stepped up to assist those in need. Some Highlights to Mitigate Fire Risk in Edmonton:

1. No backyard fires: A fire ban has been in place since May 2nd until further notice. Prohibited actions include open burning, fire pits, fireworks, and outdoor cooking stoves. Due to the severity of the situation, this bylaw will be enforced. For more details, https://www.edmonton.ca/residential.../fire_safety/fire-bans

2. Be mindful: Please do not throw cigarette butts or any potential source of ignition on the ground. Be careful to ensure sparks are not emitting from vehicles or motorized equipment.

3. Cleaning up brush: The City of Edmonton has been undergoing its Annual Spring Cleanup. This includes removing dead brush, debris, and garbage from across the City. However, you can do your part by removing old branches, leaves, and yard waste from your property.

4. Be prepared: Have an emergency plan and an emergency kit. The Provincial government has brochures on emergency preparedness in many languages here: https://www.alberta.ca/build-an-emergency-kit.aspx. Talk with your household and develop a plan in case of a fire.
