Garth Worthington School Opening

It was such an honour to participate in the grand opening of Garth Worthington School (k-9), in the beautiful Chappelle community in Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi within South West of Edmonton.

This school is special as it honors a teacher who made an irreplaceable mark on our community, Garth Worthington dedicated his life to being an educator and a mentor, who inspired a generation of Edmontonians through his extraordinary music skills, teaching, mentorship, and leadership.

I had the privilege of meeting Garth’s wife, son, daughter, and grandchildren, also his former students. I presented the city’s certificate to the school on behalf of the City of Edmonton and the City Council. I want to thank the Government of Alberta and the Edmonton Public School Board for responding to our ward’s needs by helping open this school. My thanks to everyone who worked hard in making this school a reality: the architects, construction engineers, contractors, labourers, staff, parents, and students.

As the City Councillor for Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi, I look forward to attending this wonderful school’s future parents and community events. My sincere best wishes to all the students.
