Community Safety Awareness: Coyote Issue in the Twin Brooks Neighbourhood
As you may be aware, yesterday at 11:30 am, there was an incident in the Twin Brooks area where a coyote lured two dogs into the brush causing injury resulting in their needing to seek veterinary care. Other residents have also shared similar stories about coyote issues.
The resident reached out to me, and my office responded right away. We have been working with 311 and the city's animal care and park rangers team to respond to this incident. Right after the incident yesterday afternoon, a city wild life peace officer inspected the area. Note that signs will be put up in the next 24 hrs advising citizens to be situationally aware of aggressive coyotes.
For future reference, the city has information and procedures in place for such encounters, more details are available at https://www.edmonton.ca/residential_neighbourhoods/pets_wildlife/Coyotes
We will continue to work with the city and our residents on this matter to ensure the community is safe for all of us. In the meantime, we remind community members to be aware of this issue, and to keep it in mind when out on walks, or when children and pets may be outside unattended.
My office at City Hall is officially set up and open. We can be contacted at 780-496-8132 or by email at jennifer.rice@edmonton.ca
Let's all work together to keep our neighbours safe.
