May 5th is #RedDressDay, a day to honor the Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people who have been murdered or gone missing. Indigenous women face higher rates of violence than the general population. By wearing red, we show solidarity with Indigenous communities and continue the work so all people can live free from violence.
A peaceful march Red Dress Day Walk 2023 was held on May 5 at City Hall to Beaver Hills Park to bring awareness to the cause. My office joined this day to support increasing public awareness.
