February 21st is International Mother Language Day. We celebrate this day to promote the linguistic diversity of our world. Further, it allows us to reflect upon the role language plays in culture, identity, and belonging. Like many Edmontonians, my mother tongue is not English. Despite this, I am proud to call this City home… in both Mandarin and English!
I’d love to hear what languages residents speak at home, so please feel free to let me know in the comments.
Thank you Bangladesh Canada Association of Edmonton for organizing the celebration event at City Hall today.
